'I walked off HALF my weight!'

Peter Fraser wouldn’t be pushed into losing weight, but by doing things at his own pace – and fired by #walk1000miles – he’s a transformed man.

Peter before…

…and now feeling on top of the world!

‘In my mid-30s I was extremely overweight – over 22 stone. I was fully aware of potential issues with joints, heart and so on, especially with my GP father giving me earache about it! But I had to do it in my own time and of my own volition.

‘I took the decision to change things, but didn’t say anything to anyone, so that it was a “See, I can do it when I decide”, when people started noticing the difference. I started weight loss initially through food management, then began walking each day – baby steps at first, then increasing as the weight came off and the fitness improved.

‘I now walk every day to maintain my size and shape – and I’ve climbed 79 Munros [Scottish mountains over 3000ft], as well as some Corbetts and Wainwrights as well. I’m now just under 12 stone – I did get to literally half the man I used to be, but was told I was too thin.

‘When I’m busy at work walking is very cathartic and a good de-stresser, and I find #walk1000miles brilliantly inspiring and motivating. It’s always there in your mind – a huge achievement yet one which doesn’t draw attention to itself. To others I’d say set your mind to what you want to do and stick to it – don’t let other people pressure you into doing something you’re not ready for. And you don’t even have to reveal what you’re doing.’
